Job summary

VEG is seeking an Emergency Veterinary Assistant to be at the heart of the action from day one. You will support your team, comfort pet parents, and learn the ropes in real time across triage, treatments, and patient care.

You’ll grow with guided training pathways toward anesthesia support and advanced skills, while working in a fast‑paced, supportive ER environment that values learning and collaboration.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Enrolled in an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program a plus.
• 1+ years in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience is a bonus).
• Basic computer skills and EMR familiarity.
• Excellent communicator with pets parents and team.
• Ability to stand for long hours, lift up to 25 kg and assist up to 40 kg.

Responsibilities

• Be the first warm welcome, triage incoming patients and guide them toward care.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics including bloodwork and imaging.
• Work with credentialed veterinary technicians and veterinarians on anesthesia and sedation.
• Set up and manage IV fluids, blood transfusions, and medication administration.
• Assist during outpatient or inpatient care from exam room to treatment area.
• Join patient rounds to maintain continuity of care.
• Learn CPR and pursue RECOVER Certified Rescuer training.
