Job summary

VEG is seeking an Emergency Veterinary Assistant to join our fast-paced emergency team. You’ll support the vet team from day one, triaging patients, assisting with treatments, anesthesia, and diagnostic procedures while providing compassionate care to pets and their families.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Enrollment in an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program is a plus.
• 1+ years as a veterinary assistant (emergency or specialty experience is a bonus).
• Basic computer skills and knowledge of practice management software/EMR.

Responsibilities

• Triages incoming patients and guides them to care.
• Assists with treatments, nursing care, diagnostics, bloodwork, imaging, catheter placement, and oxygen support.
• Works with technicians and veterinarians on anesthesia and sedation cases.
• Sets up and manages IV fluids, blood transfusions, and medication administration.
• Supports care in outpatient or inpatient settings from exam room to treatment area.
• Participates in patient rounds and maintains continuity of care.
• Learns CPR and RECOVER Certified Rescuer training (provided).
• Advances to roles like anesthesia support or ultrasound through training pathways.
