Job summary

VEG is seeking a per diem Emergency Veterinary Assistant to be at the heart of the action from day one. You will support the team, comfort pet parents, and learn the ropes in real time—from triage and treatments to patient care and rounds.

You’ll work alongside credentialed technicians and veterinarians, focusing on learning CPR, anesthesia support, and extended care pathways while growing in a fast-paced, pet-centered environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program is a plus.
• 1+ years in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience a bonus).
• Basic computer skills and EMR knowledge.
• Excellent communicator with pet parents and team.
• Ability to stand for long hours and lift up to 25 kg (up to 40 kg with assistance).
• Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating schedule.

Responsibilities

• Be the first warm welcome, triage patients, and guide them toward care.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics (bloodwork, imaging, IV placement, oxygen).
• Work with credentialed staff to set up and monitor anesthesia and sedation.
• Set up and manage IV fluids, blood transfusions, and meds.
• Support during outpatient or inpatient care, from exam room to treatment area.
• Join rounds to stay aligned with the clinical picture and continuity of care.
• Learn CPR and pursue RECOVER Certified Rescuer training (provided).
• Grow into advanced responsibilities via guided training (anesthesia support, ultrasound, catheterization).
• Adhere to state law in applicable duties.
