Job summary

NC State Highway Patrol is seeking a Telecommunicator—an essential link between the public and first responders. This role coordinates emergency and non-emergency communications, prioritizes information, and guides rapid response to incidents impacting safety across the patrol’s coverage area.

New hires begin as a Telecommunicator Trainee with a defined progression and a starting salary, followed by certification requirements and on-the-job experience leading to higher pay.

Qualifications

• Working knowledge of FCC and DCI rules governing radio communications.
• Ability to make sound decisions in high-pressure, time-sensitive situations.
• Experience handling large volumes of critical information in fast-paced environments.
• Experience with communication equipment in emergency response settings.

Responsibilities

• Assess and coordinate emergency and non-emergency response activities and deploy resources.
• Support operations involving officer safety, weather events, and homeland security situations.
• Receive, process, and prioritize information from the public and agencies for timely response.
• Operate CAD, TTY/TTD, LMR systems, and office software to relay information.
