Job summary

Harnett County seeks a Telecommunicator to receive emergency and non-emergency calls, operate telephony and CAD, and maintain constant contact with law enforcement, fire and EMS personnel.

The role requires triaging calls, providing pre-arrival instructions, coordinating responses in high‑stress situations, and ensuring caller and responder safety while adapting to shift work including days, nights, weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; dispatch experience preferred.
• Must have or obtain NC Driver's License and reliable transportation.
• Willing to obtain SBI DCI Operator certification within 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Receives Emergency and Non-Emergency calls via phone, radio or other means.
• Operates CAD and telephony to contact Law Enforcement, Fire and EMS personnel.
• Screen calls and provide pre-arrival instructions during high-stress situations.
• Ascertain location, nature of emergency and pertinent information.
• Coordinate responses; assign units; relay information to responders.
• Maintain status checks and document incidents thoroughly.
