Job summary

The Town of Kernersville (NC) is seeking a Part-Time Telecommunicator to support the Kernersville Police Department. This role handles emergency and non-emergency calls, relays information to officers, and operates a multi‑channel radio system.

Applicants must have at least one year of experience and DCI Modules 1–3 certifications or be willing to obtain them during training; a 24-hour-per-week commitment during training is required, including days, nights, weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Applicants must have at least one year of prior experience as a telecommunicator to be considered for this position.
• DCI Modules 1, 2, and 3 certifications or be willing to obtain these certifications during the training phase.

Responsibilities

• Operates multi-line telephone system and a multi-channel radio system to dispatch officers.
• Enters information in CAD and maintains critical data in the database.
• Monitors Police Department video security system and Doppler radar for weather alerts.
• Assists in training new telecommunicators and records training progress.
