Job summary

UC San Diego Health is seeking an Emergency Department Technician to support RNs and the care team in delivering compassionate patient care. The technician will collect vital signs, assist with ADLs, and transport specimens, equipment, and patients as needed.

You will help with minor procedures, maintain safety, and assist with mobility and transfers. Responsibilities also include clerical duties, supply management, and may participate in scheduling and committees.

Qualifications

• BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six months of hire date.
• Minimum one year of recent ED, pre-hospital, psychiatric, acute, or critical care experience.
• Collaborative work in high-acuity environment.
• Excellent interpersonal communication, organizational, and multitasking skills.
• Commitment to patient safety and confidentiality.
• De-escalation training with CPI commitment within six months.
• Demonstrates computer knowledge and skills.

Responsibilities

• Collect and document patient vital signs and observational data.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs).
• Collect, label, and transport laboratory specimens.
• Prepare and set up for minor procedures; assist during procedures and resuscitation.
• Maintain patient and environmental safety; serve as sitter when assigned.
• Support patient mobility and safe transfers between care areas.
• Clean, sterilize, and maintain medical equipment.
• Manage supply logistics and equipment functionality.
• Perform clerical duties to support patient care coordination.
• Participate in scheduling, supply management, and committees as assigned.
