Job summary

University of California - San Diego Medical Centers is seeking an Emergency Department Technician to support RNs and physicians, collect vitals, assist with ADLs, and help maintain patient safety in a high-acuity setting. Candidate should have BART/BLS, 1 year of ED/acute care experience, and strong communication and multitasking skills.

Qualifications

• BART or BLS certification at time of hire with commitment to obtain BART within six months.
• Minimum one year of recent ED/pre-hospital/acute or critical care experience.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.
• Excellent interpersonal communication, organizational, and multitasking skills.
• Commitment to patient safety, confidentiality, and quality care.
• De-escalation and behavioral management training with commitment to CPI within six months.
• Demonstrates computer knowledge and skills.

Responsibilities

• Collect and document patient vital signs and observations.
• Assist patients with ADLs to ensure comfort and dignity.
• Collect, label, and transport laboratory specimens per protocol.
• Prepare for minor procedures; assist RNs and physicians.
• Maintain patient and environmental safety; act as sitter when assigned.
• Support patient mobility and safe transfers.
• Clean, sterilize and maintain medical equipment.
• Manage supply logistics for equipment and supplies.
• Perform clerical duties to support patient care coordination.
• Participate in scheduling, supply management, and governance committees.
