Job summary

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education or training in medical office administration or healthcare administration preferred.
• 0-2 years of experience in a healthcare setting including patient registration, medical office scheduling, or front desk/admissions required
• 0-2 years of experience in customer service preferred

Responsibilities

• Greets patients and families in a professional and compassionate manner, ensuring a positive first impression.
• Registers patients for emergency services, obtaining all required personal, insurance, and medical information.
• Verifies patient identification and insurance details, making necessary updates to patient records as needed.
• Obtains patient’s or appropriate family members’ signature on all necessary consent authorization forms, explaining each consent prior to it being signed.
• Verifies insurance coverage and eligibility, ensuring that all necessary information is captured for billing purposes.
• Collects patient co-pays or deductibles when applicable and informs patients of financial obligations.
• Assists patients with understanding insurance requirements and assists with resolving insurance-related questions.
• Documents on all forms if the patient is unable to sign consent forms or when a family member signs and nursing signs off if needed.
• Verifies insurance and identifies proper insurance plan codes for accurate payment.
• Compiles necessary paperwork for quick retrieval and processing of the patient’s visit.
• Places an armband on each patient for proper identification throughout their stay.
• Notifies department or physicians of patient arrival; follows up if the patient is waiting too long.
• Maintains communication during emergency codes and alerts the facility when emergency plans are in place.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
• Complies with all policies and standards.
