Job summary

Betsy Johnson Hospital in Dunn, North Carolina is seeking an ED Access Representative to register patients in the emergency department and ensure accurate, timely accounts. You will collect demographics, verify insurance, and document information in the registration system, supporting smooth patient flow.

You will obtain physician orders for observation/admission, inform on liabilities, and collect payments at discharge.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• College courses in Business, Medical Office Administration, Health Care Administration, and/or Computer Technology preferred.
• 2 years insurance/clerical experience within a hospital or medical office setting preferred.
• Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English.

Responsibilities

• Registers emergency service patients in a fast-paced environment, creating patient accounts within 90 seconds of arrival.
• Queries EAD and enters accurate patient demographics to obtain MRN and account numbers.
• Places patient identification armbands after accounts are created for safety.
• Obtains physician orders for observation or admission status to support services rendered.
• Performs insurance eligibility/benefit verification and documents information accordingly.
• Informs patient/guarantor of liabilities and collects co-pays, co-insurances, deductibles, and deposits at discharge.
• Provides timely coverage of the assigned work area to assist clinical partners with registration needs.
• Other duties as assigned.
