Job summary

UCI Health seeks an Emergency Department Registration professional to perform essential registration duties, including pre-admission, insurance verification and financial counseling, in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Responsibilities include handling unscheduled admissions, NICU transfers, and related duties while ensuring accuracy and excellent patient service. Prior hospital/medical office experience is preferred, with strong English communication skills.

Qualifications

• Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties.
• Must demonstrate general understanding of medical terminology.
• Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job.
• Extensive knowledge of Government and Commercial Insurance Plans.
• Experience with registration and/or billing computer software programs.
• Experience in a hospital or medical office setting.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Managed Care plans.
• Demonstrated experience with referral authorization process.
• Demonstrated ability to utilize payer and government websites to access and interpret health plan benefit packages and make determinations.
• Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System.

Responsibilities

• Perform pre-admission tasks and verification.
• Provide financial counseling to patients.
• Notify insurance and obtain verifications and authorizations.
• Manage unscheduled admissions in acute care or mental health settings.
• Handle NICU transfers and other duties as assigned.
