Job summary

UCI Health, the clinical enterprise of the University of California, Irvine, seeks an ED Registration Rep to interview patients, collect demographic data, verify insurance after MSE, and obtain authorizations for treatment or admission. You will ensure accurate records, document insurance details, and assist in smooth admissions and transfers across the emergency department.

Qualifications

• One year previous work experience.
• AB508 Training within three months.
• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Medical terminology.
• Previous Emergency Registration experience or hospital experience.
• Basic knowledge of EMTALA and triage procedures.
• Computer and typing skills.
• Customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Interviews patient or patient’s representative to obtain required identifying data for all the required fields.
• Assigns appropriate rooms and accommodation codes based on the Nursing Station assignment.
• Performs transfers and discharges correctly and in a timely manner.
• Coordinates telephone contact to physicians or other facilities as necessary.
• Insurance verification after MSE and updates to chart with insurance information.
• Collects monies after the MSE and obtains authorization for treatment and/or admission.
• Obtains signatures on registration forms and witnesses them appropriately.
• Hands out Admission packets to admissions and observation patients prior to floor transfer.
