Job summary

The State of South Carolina is seeking a Communications Specialist III to operate the State Warning Point, monitor switchboard and alerting systems, and coordinate communications with federal, state, and local agencies. Overnight shifts (midnight-8:00) are required, including weekends.

Responsibilities include disseminating information via phone, radio, and computer, maintaining logs, and using emergency management software to support public safety operations.

Qualifications

• Two years of college courses or equivalent and six months experience in radio or telephone dispatching, or six months experience in call center/customer service operations.
• Must be able to convey/interpret oral, written, and visual communications during emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and operate telephone switchboard and radio systems.
• Manage inbound/outbound email notifications and other alerting systems.
• Coordinate initial alert notifications from power plants and facilities.
• Input and log daily activities and emergency incidents.
• Distinguish and disseminate information to federal, state, and local agencies.
