Job summary

The City of Stamford is seeking a Public Safety Dispatcher I to handle emergency and non-emergency calls, log information, and coordinate with fire, police, and EMS using radio, phone, and computer systems.

You will work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed, monitor multiple channels, and ensure rapid, accurate dispatch while maintaining clear records and supporting ongoing staff training.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited high school and a minimum of three years of general work experience with computer usage and customer interaction.
• Evening, night, holiday and weekend work may be required as assigned.
• Knowledge of dispatch procedures and terminology preferred.
• Ability to operate radio, telephone and computer systems accurately and calmly.

Responsibilities

• Receive and record emergency and non-emergency information and requests for service.
• Transmit reports to mobile units and appropriate personnel or agencies.
• Dispatch equipment and personnel to locations in need of service or coverage.
• Monitor radio frequencies, computer terminals, and other systems for requests and updates.
• Ask callers for information, clarify details, and determine priorities.
• Maintain logs and assist in on-the-job training of new personnel.
