Job summary

City of Greenville's public safety communications center seeks a dispatcher to handle routine and emergency calls, enter calls into CAD, and relay information to officers. You will operate two-way radios, monitor traffic cameras, and maintain logs to support rapid response.

The role requires lifting the pace of work during emergencies, rotating 12-hour shifts including weekends, and compliance with certifications and background checks upon hire.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED, supplemented with some training in communications equipment.
  • Six months to one year of experience in dispatching or related field; emergency communications preferred.
  • Ability to type clearly and work rotating 12-hour shifts, including weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Receive routine and emergency calls and relay information to public safety personnel.
  • Enter calls for service into CAD and maintain communications logs.
  • Operate two-way radio to contact police cars and other units; monitor cameras and security systems.
  • Dispatch Police, Animal Protective Services, and monitor Fire/Rescue Officers; maintain officer locations.
  • Collaborate with multiple agencies and monitor weather and patrol information.
  • Complete tip sheets and perform related duties as assigned.
