Job summary

AeroVironment, Inc. is seeking an entry-level Software Engineer I (Embedded) to develop software for unmanned and robotic systems on embedded devices.

You will design, write, test and debug software for aircraft avionics, payloads, and other robotic platforms, while collaborating with cross-functional teams. The role emphasizes rapid prototyping, testing in flight environments, and helping transition software to production and certification, with moderate supervision and a strong learning

Qualifications

• BS degree in Computer Science/Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering or related field is required or equivalent
• 0-2 years of relevant experience for entry level role
• Proficient with Python, C, C++11, C++ STL, OpenCL; experience with IDEs like Visual Studio or Eclipse
• Familiar with RS-485/RS-232/CAN/I2C/SPI/USB protocols
• Experience with STM32 processors and RTOS is highly desirable

Responsibilities

• Writes and tests software to support integration of sensors and embedded processors into aircraft or robotic systems
• Designs and implements software for prototypes using AeroVironment tools and practices
• Ensure good configuration control and software management
• Assist with hardware selection and memory/storage needs
• Support rapid prototyping and time-to-market estimates with project mgmt
• Works closely with other engineering disciplines and teams
• Supports transition of development software to production and certification
• Develops proof of concept capability demonstrations
• Contributes to design reviews and follows the software development process
