Job summary

Anduril Industries seeks an Embedded Linux Software Engineer for the DeviceOS platform to own the boot chain from firmware to encrypted root filesystem. You will customize vendor BSPs, patch kernels, and ensure all peripherals reliably enumerate across boots and upgrades.

You will diagnose boot issues on deployed hardware, maintain a long-lived baseline, and develop automated HIL tests to prevent regressions in flight systems. U.S. Person status and security clearance eligibility are required.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of professional embedded Linux platform, sustainment of deployed embedded Linux platforms, or kernel-adjacent integration experience.
• Deep understanding of the embedded Linux boot chain: firmware/bootloaders (U-Boot, EDK2), device trees, kernel command line, initrd/initramfs, and root filesystem assembly.
• Strong programming skills in C for kernel/driver development and BSP patching, with proficiency in Rust or C++ for userspace platform integration.
• Hands-on experience debugging hardware at the bench using serial consoles, schematics, and datasheets.
• Experience maintaining software deployed on real-world hardware with safe updates and regression validation.
• U.S. Person status required due to export control (ITAR/EAR) with eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Own the boot path end-to-end on deployed compute, including firmware, U-Boot/UEFI, unified kernel images, initrd, and encrypted storage unlock.
• Customize and sustain vendor BSPs (Tegra/Jetson Linux, NXP) with modern NixOS or equivalent, patching kernel and device trees as needed.
• Guarantee deterministic hardware availability by ensuring peripherals enumerate and operate correctly across boots and upgrades.
• Maintain a long-lived baseline, keep signed boot chain and disk encryption working through firmware and OS changes, and triage CVEs in vendor kernels.
• Automate and validate with Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) test suites to catch regressions before flight/field deployment.
• Perform deep root-cause analysis of bus errors, thermal/power issues, kernel panics, and boot hangs using serials, logic analyzers, and schematics.
• Be the upstream: triage upstream kernel/BSP issues, patch when upstream fixes are unavailable, and carry patches forward.
