Chariot Defense Inc. is seeking an Embedded Linux Engineer to own the software platform from the ground up, bringing up a bare, custom-built board, booting Linux, and keeping the stack maintainable as units ship and update in the field.

You’ll bridge hardware and software on Amphora and future products, joining a team with DoD experience. The role is high-ownership, hands-on and requires collaboration with firmware/hardware teams, with a strong focus on reliability and maintainability in austere

Qualifications

• BS in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
• 3+ years building and shipping embedded Linux on custom hardware.
• Proven board bring-up experience, from powered-off to reliably booting.
• Hands-on with the boot chain: bootloader, kernel configuration, drivers, and device tree.
• Fluent in C/C++ and the embedded Linux toolchain (cross-compilation, JTAG, serial debug).
• Exposure to embedded communication interfaces (CAN, SPI, I2C, UART) at the OS and driver level.

Responsibilities

• Board bring-up: Validate freshly fabricated carrier boards and ensure reliable booting, test power, memory, and interfaces on the bench.
• Bootloader & kernel configuration: Stand up bootloader and configure Linux kernel for our hardware.
• Device drivers & device tree: Describe hardware to Linux and integrate drivers for non-standard peripherals.
• Build & deploy with Nix / NixOS: Define OS as code, create reproducible images, and maintain safe update paths.
• Networking & system services: Configure on-device networking and essential services.
• Reliability & maintainability: Ensure platform robustness for fielded units over product life.
• Cross-functional integration: Collaborate with firmware and hardware teams at the hardware-software boundary.
