Job summary

Anduril Industries is seeking an embedded Linux engineer to own the boundary between hardware and software on fielded compute. You will manage the boot sequence end-to-end and ensure reliable operation across updates, including U-Boot/UEFI, kernel images, and encrypted rootfs at the edge.

You will customize vendor BSPs, patch device trees, patch kernels, and triage CVEs while maintaining a secure boot chain and long-lived baseline for deployed robotics platforms.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of professional embedded Linux platform or kernel-adjacent integration experience.
• Deep understanding of the embedded Linux boot chain: firmware/bootloaders (U-Boot, EDK2), device trees, kernel command line, initrd/initramfs, and root filesystem assembly.
• U.S. Person status is required due to export control regulations with eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance.
• Nix/NixOS experience or Yocto/Buildroot familiarity, with a willingness to transition to modern reproducible paradigms.

Responsibilities

• Own the boot path: firmware, U-Boot/UEFI, unified kernel images, initrd, encrypted storage unlock, and handoff to NixOS.
• Customize & sustain vendor BSPs and patch kernel/device trees when hardware requires custom behavior.
• Guarantee deterministic hardware availability for peripherals across boots and platform upgrades.
• Triage CVEs in vendor kernels and maintain a safe, validated firmware and software baseline on deployed systems.
• Automate Hardware-in-the-Loop tests to detect regressions before flight or field deployment.
• Perform deep root-cause analysis using serial consoles, schematics, and debugging tools.
• Triage upstream kernel and BSP issues and carry patches forward across platform migrations.
