Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) seeks an Autonomous Systems Firmware Engineer to design and field sophisticated embedded platforms for mission-critical applications. You will develop real-time firmware on DSPs, FPGAs and RTOS-based systems, and integrate sensors, actuators, and navigation components into end-to-end autonomous platforms.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or related field.
  • 3+ years of embedded systems experience including design, development, integration, and testing.
  • Ability to multi-task across several projects and work independently in small teams.
  • Willing to work in classified labs and locations worldwide for 15% of time.
  • Must be eligible for Interim Secret clearance and ultimately Top Secret clearance; U.S. citizenship required.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop embedded systems from architecture through integration and test for autonomous platforms.
  • Develop real-time firmware and algorithms on embedded processors, DSPs, FPGAs, RTOS platforms for sensing, control, navigation, and autonomy.
  • Specify, integrate, and validate hardware components (sensors, actuators, cameras, nav, autopilots) into complete systems.
  • Plan and execute lab and field testing, analyze performance, troubleshoot, and drive design improvements.
  • Document designs and test results; present technical work to project and design review teams.
