Job summary

Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) seeks a Senior Embedded Systems & Hardware-in-the-Loop Engineer to lead the architecture and implementation of complete embedded systems, custom electronics, FPGA firmware, real-time software, and HWIL test systems.

You will guide multi-disciplinary teams, design PCB and FPGA logic, and develop real-time software for high-performance missile seeker platforms and optical sensors.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in computer/electrical engineering, CS or related discipline with 8+ years of experience.
  • Proficiency in modern C++ with real-time performance, multi-threading and OO design.
  • Extensive FPGA firmware design experience using VHDL/Verilog (Vivado/Quartus).
  • Embedded Linux development including kernel, drivers (V4L2) and PetaLinux/Yocto.

Responsibilities

  • Lead multi-disciplinary teams in architecting and developing complete embedded systems from concept through deployment.
  • Design custom electronics including PCB layouts, FPGA firmware and real-time C++ embedded software.
  • Develop and integrate real-time HWIL test systems for sensors and tracking systems.
  • Interface with advanced sensors and develop MATLAB/Python analysis tools.
  • Support field testing, lead design reviews (PDR, CDR), and provide technical leadership.
