Job summary

Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory seeks an Autonomous Systems Firmware Engineer to design and field embedded firmware for autonomous platforms in demanding environments.

You will own from concept through deployment, developing real-time firmware on processors, DSPs, FPGAs with RTOS, and integrating sensors, actuators, and navigation systems. Willingness to travel 15% and obtain security clearances is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience with embedded systems (design, development, integration or test).
  • Ability to multi-task across projects and work independently in small teams.
  • Willingness to work in classified laboratories and international locations.
  • Ability to obtain Interim Secret clearance by start date and Top Secret eventually.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop embedded systems from architecture through test for autonomous platforms.
  • Develop real-time firmware on embedded processors, DSPs, FPGAs, RTOS platforms.
  • Integrate sensors, actuators, cameras, navigation systems into complete systems.
  • Plan and execute lab and field testing, analyze performance, drive improvements.
  • Document designs and present results to project and design review teams.
