Job summary

The NYC Department of Social Services HASA is seeking an Eligibility Specialist-III to conduct initial assessments, recertifications, and document mandated information for public benefits. You will perform interviews, verify documentation, and determine eligibility using HASA systems.

Responsibilities include preparing budgets, writing case histories, initiating benefit payments, and liaising with courts, landlords, and utilities to ensure timely decisions in a fast-paced social services

Qualifications

• Completion of 30 semester credits at an accredited college or university; or a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and one year of full-time satisfactory experience.
• A four year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and one year of relevant experience in interviewing, documentation, or navigating social services systems; or a satisfactory combination of education and experience.
• Experience with HASA databases and welfare systems is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Perform initial assessment and recertification interviews to document mandated information and verify required documentation.
• Determine initial and continuing eligibility for HASA services using automated systems (WMS, POS, FACTORS) and refer to EVR, WINROO, and TADS as needed.
• Prepare regular and bottom-line budgets to determine benefit amounts when there is household income.
• Review consumer data and input client-specific information into HASA systems for clearance processing.
• Prepare detailed case write-ups on decisions and histories to support eligibility outcomes and coordinate benefit payments via EPFT.
