Job summary

The NYC Department of Social Services is recruiting five Eligibility Specialist III positions to evaluate and determine financial eligibility for public assistance and related benefits. Duties include interviewing participants, documenting information, and issuing benefits in accordance with agency guidelines.

Work location includes multiple service centers in New York City. Hours are Monday–Friday, 9 AM–5 PM, with a strong emphasis on accurate processing and timely recertification.

Qualifications

• 30 semester credits at an accredited college or university.
• Four year high school diploma or equivalent with one year of related experience.
• Experience interviewing, gathering information, and preparing documentation for eligibility decisions.

Responsibilities

• Inform participants about time-limited benefits and program objectives.
• Conduct thorough interviews to determine financial eligibility and issue benefits per guidelines.
• Provide information about transitional benefits to promote independence through employment.
• Identify and provide special emergency needs promptly.
• Authorize changes in assistance and budgets based on valid information and prepare forms.
• Maintain caseload with face-to-face recertifications, appointments, paperwork, training and meetings.
• Complete Fair Hearing/Aid to Continue compliance and resolutions within deadlines.
• Complete agency forms to issue benefits and notify participants.
• Make referrals and schedule appointments.
