Job summary

Longfellow Elementary in Iowa City is seeking an Elementary Supervisory Paraeducator for a part-time 1 hour/day position. You will support students in an educational team under the building administrator and classroom teacher, contributing to academic and social-emotional needs.

The role requires an AA/BA or Para certification, with preference for prior experience with children and flexibility. Collaboration with staff and families is essential for student success.

Qualifications

• AA degree or BA degree, or Para certification.
• Previous experience with children preferred but not required.
• Post-secondary coursework in education preferred but not required.
• Initiative to be a self-starter.
• Intuitive to the needs of the student.
• Ability to work well with teachers, staff, admins, and parents.
• Flexibility in assignments.
• Good judgment when unexpected problems arise.

Responsibilities

• Supervise students during recess, monitor safety and notify staff of issues.
• Supervise lunch – seating, behavior, and dismissal; assist with meal distribution as needed.
• Assist with basic student health concerns and medicine distribution.
• Assist with daily lunch counts and ordering of lunches.
• Assist with attendance; call families for unaccounted students.
• Assist classroom teachers in preparing instructional materials.
• Assist in media center as needed.
• Maintain confidentiality of student records.
• Comply with the negotiated paraeducator agreement.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
