Job summary

Grant Wood Elementary in Iowa City, IA seeks an Elementary Supervisory Paraeducator for a 6.5-hour day to support students under the supervision of the building administrator and teachers.

The position involves supervising students at recess and lunch, assisting with instructional materials and student health concerns, and coordinating with staff. 175 contract days, $16.05 per hour, full-time, on-site role.

Qualifications

• AA or BA degree, or Para certification.
• Experience working with children preferred.
• Post-secondary coursework in education preferred.
• Initiative to be a self-starter.
• Intuitive to the needs of the student.
• Ability to work well with teachers, staff, admins and parents as part of a team.
• Flexibility in assignments.
• Good judgment for unexpected problems.
• Ability to use office equipment.

Responsibilities

• Supervise recess, monitor safety and notify staff of issues.
• Supervise lunch seating and assist with distribution of food.
• Assist with basic student health concerns.
• Assist with daily lunch counts and ordering.
• Assist with attendance and contacting families.
• Assist classroom teachers in preparing instructional materials.
• Assist in the media center when needed.
• Respect confidentiality of student records.
• Conform to the paraeducator agreement.
• Other duties as assigned.
