Job summary

ChanceLight Behavioral Health, Therapy, & Education in Illinois is seeking a Special Education Teacher for elementary students in an alternative education program. You will design personalized IEP-based instruction and lead instructional planning in learning centers and classrooms.

The role emphasizes PBIS, collaboration with families and staff, differentiated instruction, and ongoing progress monitoring; a bachelor’s in education and IL licensure are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in education, special education or a closely related field.
• Licensed currently or in the process of obtaining an IL professional educator (PEL) credential.
• Licensed currently or in the process of obtaining an IL learning behavior specialist (LBS1) credential.
• Ability to obtain and maintain certification in crisis management training.
• Experience with curriculum development, differentiation and instruction, preferably in alt/special ed or behavioral health settings.
• Experience with special education services and compliance for students with disabilities and challenging behaviors.
• Experience with IEPs and developing education plans for at-risk students.
• Strong communication, organization, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Ability to respond quickly and calmly in emergencies; independent decision making.
• Knowledge of technology and instructional software; MS Office; basic office equipment.

Responsibilities

• Create an inclusive classroom climate involving students, families, colleagues, and admins.
• Establish PBIS-focused classroom expectations and consequences.
• Implement school-wide and classroom PBIS strategies and reward systems.
• Track student progress and maintain accurate records; generate progress reports.
• Deliver differentiated instruction, including co-teaching, aligned to IEP goals.
• Modify curricula to fit diverse learning needs and guide staff on differentiation.
• Use varied instructional resources and software to engage students.
• Manage caseloads; develop and implement IEP goals and interventions.
• Plan daily lessons and organize materials aligned to standards and student objectives.
• Maintain safe, welcoming classrooms and manage resources per procedures.
• Stay current on best practices in special education and instruction.
• Respond constructively to evaluations and pursue ongoing professional growth.
• Contribute to school community with additional duties as needed.
