Job summary

Federal Way Public Schools is seeking an Elementary Paraeducator to supervise scholars and support basic skills development in a classroom or designated area. You will oversee playground, crosswalk, and breakfast/lunch supervision under the direction of a supervising teacher.

The role emphasizes working with students with identified disabilities, often in small groups or individually, either in the regular classroom or in a dedicated learning space.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• AA degree or college credits option or paraeducator assessment requirement
• Proficient in basic spelling, math and grammar

Responsibilities

• Supervise and monitor students throughout the school day in accordance with policies.
• Communicate safety concerns to the principal and address violations.
• Help students problem solve and resolve conflicts.
• Report safety hazards on campus to main office for action.
• Assist students with opening food items and cleaning their area.
• Follow protocol when assisting injured students.
• Create an environment that encourages positive behavior and redirect misbehavior.
• Tutor individuals or groups as directed by the teacher.
• Assist with instructional and behavioral programs as needed.
• Plan daily/weekly activities with teachers servicing the same students.
• Communicate with staff and parents as required.
• Record instructional progress as directed by the supervising teacher.
• Interact positively with students, parents, and staff.
• Assist with room maintenance and inventory of books/equipment.
• Assist with health-related procedures for students as assigned.
