Job summary

The University of Toledo is seeking an Electronic Tech Journeyman to perform comprehensive testing of life safety systems across campus. You will handle fire alarm initiation devices, system shut downs, and report results for audits and monitoring

Responsibilities include documenting test results, adjusting hours to meet institutional needs, and ensuring alignment with NFPA 72 standards. A valid D/L and state licensure are required or pursued.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Journeyman Electronic Technician certificate, associate degree, or technical certification with 4+ years related experience.
  • Knowledge of electrical wiring systems and building layouts.
  • State fire alarm testing license or certification preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and insurability under UT policies.

Responsibilities

  • Verify NFPA 72 compliance and 24-hour monitoring system reporting.
  • Maintain test records and adjust schedules to meet institutional needs.

Job Description

Fire test all initiating, supervisory, and notification devices(8,000+ campus wide), air handler shut down relays, elevator recalland shunt trip, sensitivity testing, all door releases, batteryload test for panels, verify proper device locations anddescriptions, verify systems are reporting to 24 hour monitoringstations per NFPA 72 and JCHAO, verify remote annunciation, campuswide. Maintain and document test results and records of each LifeSafety System test. Modification of normal working hours (40 hrs)onto any shift, any day of the week to meet institutionalneeds.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must possess a High School diploma or GED
  • Department of Labor or equivalent journeyman ElectronicTechnician certificate or associates degree or technical schoolcertification and four (4) or more years related experience.
  • Knowledge of electrical wiring systems; ability to applyprinciples to solve a variety of electrical problems
  • Must have an understanding of building layout, terminology, anduniversity policy and procedures
  • Ability to use math in the use of Ohm’s Law and understandmanuals and verbal instructions (technical in nature)
  • State license in fire alarm testing required
  • Valid driver’s license and insurability under UT drivingpolicies
  • Must be physically cable of performing the duties of theposition. Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver objects weighing upto 50 lbs.
Communication and other skills
  • Verbal skills to communicate with staff, patients, familymembers, and management
  • Verbal skills to communicate with other trades, contractors andwork control
  • Must have the ability to, as well as meet, the requirements tocomplete and maintain mandatory training per the Universitymandatory training policy pursuant to the deadlines set forththerein.
