Job summary

Blue Origin in Huntsville, AL is seeking an electromechanical manufacturing engineer to translate engineering intent into test-ready hardware, craft BOMs, and generate work instructions for assembly. You will influence designs for manufacturability and define end-to-end production flows for high-speed rotating assemblies.

The role requires experience with motor construction, winding patterns, insulation, and precision assembly, plus strong CAD/Office skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Strong electrical engineering fundamentals including motor construction, winding patterns, insulation systems, conductor termination, and high-voltage assembly practices.
  • 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing or production engineering capacity, including internships.
  • Direct manufacturing experience with electric motors or similar rotating electrical machines (alternators, dynamometers, traction motors, or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated experience defining manufacturing process flows and selecting production equipment for electromechanical hardware.
  • Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals including GD&T, tolerance analysis, precision fits, bearing installation, rotor balancing, and structural assembly.
  • Ability to read and interpret both mechanical drawings (GD&T) and electrical drawings (schematics, wiring diagrams, interconnect drawings).
  • Strong written, personal, technical, and software skills (CAD, Issue Tracking, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Translating engineering intent and drawings into fully functional electromechanical hardware ready for test, qualification, and deployment by crafting manufacturing bill of materials and work instructions.
  • Providing DFMA feedback to design engineering throughout the product development lifecycle, influencing part geometry, tolerances, material selection, and assembly sequences to optimize manufacturability.
  • Defining end-to-end manufacturing process flows from raw material through final assembly and test, identifying critical path operations and process interdependencies.
  • Evaluating, selecting, and specifying manufacturing equipment— including winding machines, balancing equipment, CNC machinery, test stands, and specialized tooling—to establish production capability for new and evolving product lines.
  • Developing manufacturing processes for assemblies involving high-speed rotating components, stator/rotor integration, winding installation, insulation systems, and precision electrical-mechanical interfaces.
  • Applying strong mechanical engineering fundamentals—tolerance stack-ups, fits, thermal management, structural assembly, and precision alignment—alongside electrical engineering knowledge of motor/machine construction.
  • Providing shipside/lineside support on the manufacturing floor for both mechanical and electrical assembly operations.
  • Non-conformance report (NCR) generation, management, and closure addressing both mechanical dimensional conformance and electrical performance requirements.
  • Supporting introduction of new products by crafting manufacturing plan artifacts including build plans, duration estimates, production schedules, and tool lists.
