Job summary

Lake Superior Consulting seeks an Electrical Power Engineer to design, analyze, and upgrade medium- and low-voltage power systems for industrial clients. You will lead electrical scope on projects, mentor junior staff, and coordinate with multi-discipline teams from concept through commissioning.

The role offers hybrid or remote work flexibility. Expect to work on substations, switching, protection studies, and interconnections, with a focus on safety and standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• Minimum of 3 years of electrical power systems engineering experience in an industrial, utility, or consulting environment.
• Experience designing or modifying medium-voltage (1 kV to 38 kV) and low-voltage power distribution systems.
• Hands‑on modeling and study experience in SKM PowerTools, ETAP, EasyPower, or equivalent.
• Working knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, and IEEE standards applicable to industrial power systems.
• Ability to read and interpret one-line diagrams, protection and control schematics, and vendor drawings.

Responsibilities

• Lead power-system analysis and studies for projects of various sizes.
• Develop protective relay settings and coordination for feeder, transformer, motor, generator, and bus protection.
• Design grounding systems per IEEE 80/81 and perform field verifications.
• Prepare and review one-line/diagram deliverables, schematics, and design documents.
• Support field investigations, testing, commissioning, and RFIs with clients and contractors.
• Mentor engineers and designers and interface with clients and vendors.
