Job summary

RTX is seeking an Electrical Engineer II to join the Defense Technologies team within Applied Research & Technologies. This role focuses on hands-on design, prototyping, integration, and characterization of advanced electronic systems for next-generation defense and mission systems technologies.

The position suits engineers who thrive in a lab-centric, experimental environment and enjoy solving complex hardware challenges through rigorous design and empirical testing.

Qualifications

• Typically requires a STEM degree and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD Security Clearance (U.S. citizenship required).
• Familiarity with common EDA tools (e.g., Altium, OrCAD, KiCad, Mentor).

Responsibilities

• Support the design and development of analog, digital, and mixed-signal electronics for advanced defense technology applications
• Develop prototypes and early-stage demonstrators, including schematic capture, PCB design support, component selection, and breadboard/test module build-up
• Perform lab characterization, measurement, and validation of electronic subsystems using oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, VNAs, logic analyzers, and other instrumentation
• Assist in system integration activities involving embedded electronics, sensors, RF subsystems, power electronics, or signal processing elements (depending on project needs)
• Participate in requirements definition, detailed design reviews, and risk/issue tracking
• Contribute to technical reports, project documentation, and presentations for internal stakeholders and government customers
