Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. is seeking a remote-based engineer to support design, development, and implementation of generator control switchgear systems.

You will deliver automation and control solutions for complex power systems, working independently and with teams to execute retrofit and new projects from concept through commissioning. Responsibilities include design, programming, testing, commissioning of control systems, and training technicians and customers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent experience.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to meet background, drug, and medical requirements.
• Knowledge of power systems, including switchgear, ATS, and generator systems.
• Experience with automation and controls, including PLC-based systems, HMIs, and distributed control systems.

Responsibilities

• Identify retrofit opportunities, define project scope and support proposals.
• Execute design, programming, testing, and commissioning of control systems.
• Convert legacy PLC programs to current platforms and validate performance.
• Develop and modify PLC and HMI applications using standard templates.
• Coordinate with CAD designers to produce wiring and assembly drawings.
• Perform technical risk assessments and support field performance.
• Submit project documentation, reports, and expenses timely.
• Train and support technicians, customers, and internal teams on maintenance and operation.
