Job summary

Caterpillar is seeking a remote-based Electrical Engineer in the Electric Power Division to design, develop, and implement generator control switchgear systems. You will deliver automation solutions for complex power systems, working independently and with teams to execute retrofit and new projects from concept through commissioning.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
• Experience with PLC-based systems, HMIs, and distributed control systems.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and blueprints.
• Willingness to travel 35–50% and work remotely from the U.S.

Responsibilities

• Identify retrofit opportunities and define project scope with Dealer and Factory teams.
• Execute design, programming, testing, and commissioning of low- and medium-voltage generator control systems.
• Convert legacy PLC programs to current platforms and validate performance.
• Develop and modify PLC and HMI applications using standard templates.
• Partner with CAD designers to produce wiring and assembly drawings.
• Perform risk assessments and support field performance of projects.
• Submit documentation, reports, and expenses promptly; train technicians and customers as needed.
