Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. in the United States is seeking an engineer to design, develop, and implement generator control switchgear systems.

You will deliver automation and control solutions for complex power systems, working independently and with teams to execute retrofit and new system projects from concept through commissioning. The role requires experience with PLCs, HMIs, and DCS, plus the ability to read electrical schematics.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent relevant experience in electrical engineering or technology.
• Experience with automation and control systems for power equipment.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and blueprints.

Responsibilities

• Identify retrofit opportunities and support proposals with Dealer and Factory teams.
• Execute design, programming, testing, and commissioning of generator control systems.
• Convert legacy PLC programs and validate performance.
• Develop and modify PLC and HMI applications using standard templates.
• Collaborate with CAD designers for wiring and assembly drawings.
• Perform technical risk assessments and support field performance.
• Submit project documentation, reports, and expenses timely.
• Train technicians, customers, and internal teams on maintenance and operation.
