Job summary

HDR, Inc. is hiring a licensed electrical engineer to lead design for battery energy storage and power generation projects in North Carolina. You will collaborate with civil, structural, fire/Life Safety, HV, SCADA, and geotechnical teams to deliver complete design packages, review specs, and provide QA/QC across multiple projects.

You will mentor junior staff, engage clients, and support business development while delivering safe, reliable energy solutions. Travel up to 10% may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required or eligible for licensure.
• Experience executing projects in the Power Market Sector.
• Design experience adhering to NEC/IEEE codes and standards.
• Proficient with Power Market sector design software.

Responsibilities

• Support grid-scale BESS projects with layouts and P&IDs through construction packages.
• Evaluate energy storage tech, vendors, and support microgrid projects.
• Develop design plans, specs, cost estimates, and construction docs.
• Coordinate with civil, structural, fire/Life Safety, HV, SCADA, and geotech engineers.
• Prepare technical reports explaining BESS concepts and feasibility results.
• Assist in client meetings, vendor coordination, and project scheduling.
• Provide QA/QC on the work of engineers and designers.
• Mentor junior team members and support business development.
