Electrical Engineer — Power & Building Systems
Flowtec is partnering with an established MEP and building systems consultancy to appoint an Electrical Engineer into their Boston office.
Our client has spent 30+ years designing complex, high-performance buildings across the mission critical, life sciences, healthcare and academic markets, with five offices across the East Coast and Southeast. The firm is partially employee-owned, so you hold a genuine stake in the business, and there’s a defined route to partnership rather than a vague promise of one.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Leading electrical design across mission critical, life sciences, healthcare and academic projects
- Owning the full project lifecycle, concept, design, specification, construction administration, closeout
- Power distribution design — service entrance, switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, transformers, feeders and branch circuits
- Load calculations, short circuit, coordination and arc flash studies
- Emergency and standby power design — generators, automatic transfer switches, UPS and paralleling switchgear
- Lighting and lighting control design, including photometric calculations
- Code analysis to NEC, the Massachusetts Electrical Code, NFPA 110, NFPA 99 and NFPA 72
- Acting as the primary point of contact for clients, architects and contractors
- Leading coordination with the mechanical, plumbing, fire protection and technology teams
- QA/QC review, and mentoring the engineers behind you
What We’re Looking For:
- Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering
- 5+ years of electrical building systems design in an MEP consulting environment
- Experience across lab, healthcare, mission critical or high-performance buildings
- Revit and AutoCAD, plus power systems analysis software — SKM, ETAP or EasyPower
- Lighting design tools such as AGi32 or Visual
- Strong client-facing ability, you’ll be in front of clients, not behind a screen
- A PE is not required. If you hold one, great. If you’re working toward it, they’ll support the exam
- Nice to have: healthcare essential electrical systems, mission critical redundancy topologies, Massachusetts project history, LEED or energy modelling
Why This Role:
- Employee Stock Ownership Plan, a real equity stake in the firm, not a notional bonus
- Path to Partnership, a transparent, structured route to leadership with mentorship behind it
- Student debt repayment paid directly against your loans
- Flexible and hybrid working
- FE/PE exam support and a structured internal training programme
- A 30+ year consultancy with a technically serious reputation in mission critical and science & technology
- One of the strongest life sciences and healthcare construction markets in the country, on your doorstep
