Job summary

Tighe & Bond seeks a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead multidisciplinary design teams, from planning through commissioning, for buildings, campuses, and infrastructure projects. This role acts as Engineer of Record for power distribution, lighting, life safety, and related systems.

You will mentor engineers, develop proposals, coordinate with owners and architects, and support varying delivery methods. Massachusetts licensure preferred; PE in NE states acceptable.

  • Professional Engineer license required.
  • 15+ years of electrical engineering experience.
  • Significant experience leading electrical design for buildings or campuses.

Job description

Provide technical leadership and project direction for multidisciplinary design teams
Lead electrical engineering design from early planning and conceptual studies through construction documents, construction administration, and commissioning support
Lead electrical design for building systems, campus infrastructure, utility upgrades, and facility improvement projects
Serve as Engineer of Record for electrical projects involving power distribution, emergency and standby power, lighting, lighting controls, fire alarm, life safety, and related building systems
Evaluate existing electrical systems and develop recommendations for upgrades, replacement, capacity improvements, resiliency, and future growth
Lead engineering studies, energy efficiency reviews, load analyses, system planning, infrastructure strategy, master planning, and preliminary engineering reports
Prepare and review construction drawings, specifications, technical reports, cost estimates, and design narratives
Support traditional design-bid-build, design-build, design-assist, fast-track, and phased renovation project delivery
Coordinate with mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, structural, civil, architectural, and owner teams
Provide technical QA/QC and help establish consistent design standards
Mentor and develop electrical engineers and designers
Support project management, including scope development, schedules, budgets, fee estimates, staffing plans, and client communication
Participate in client meetings, presentations, interviews, and proposal efforts
Provide construction administration support, including submittal reviews, RFIs, site observations, punch lists, and commissioning coordination
Help grow and strengthen Tighe & Bond’s electrical and MEP presence across New England offices

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology
  • Professional Engineer license required
  • 15+ years of electrical engineering experience
  • Significant experience leading electrical design for buildings, institutional facilities, campuses, or complex infrastructure environments
  • Strong technical knowledge of normal and emergency power distribution, switchboards, switchgear, transformers, generators, medium-voltage systems, lighting, lighting controls, fire alarm, and life safety systems
  • Experience evaluating existing electrical infrastructure and developing recommendations for replacement, upgrades, phasing, and long-term planning
  • Ability to lead complex, multidisciplinary projects from concept through construction
  • Strong communication skills with clients, owners, architects, contractors, and internal project teams
  • Experience mentoring engineers and reviewing technical work
  • Working knowledge of applicable electrical codes, life safety codes, energy codes, and industry standards
  • PE licensure in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, or other New England states preferred
  • Experience with higher education, healthcare, laboratory, K-12, municipal, industrial, transportation, or mission critical facilities preferred
  • Experience with occupied building renovations, phased construction, and complex shutdown coordination preferred
  • Experience with medium-voltage distribution, campus utility infrastructure, switchgear replacement, standby power, or central plants preferred
  • Experience with energy audits, electrical system master planning, infrastructure assessments, and long-term capital planning preferred
  • Experience supporting proposals, fee development, staffing plans, project interviews, and client presentations preferred
  • Familiarity with Revit, AutoCAD, electrical modeling/analysis tools, and current BIM coordination workflows preferred
  • Interest in helping grow an electrical practice through technical leadership, client relationships, mentoring, and collaboration preferred
