Job summary

AEP Service Corporation is seeking a committed apprentice/line worker in Woodlawn, VA to assist with installation, maintenance and inspection of electrical transmission and distribution facilities. The role involves working with overhead and underground equipment, driving line trucks, and supporting crew operations.

Applicants must live within 45 minutes of the Woodlawn Service Center and meet the education requirement; CDL permit within 60 days is required.

Qualifications

Must live within 45 minutes of Woodlawn Service Center.
High school diploma or GED required.
No experience required; line work experience or line school preferred.
Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license; must obtain CDL beginner permit within 60 days.

Responsibilities

Assist with assembly, installation, maintenance, removal and inspection of underground facilities and overhead lines.
Demonstrate ground person duties under supervision; assist with loading/unloading and rigging; progress to operating equipment as trained.
Assemble and install line material and hardware under supervision; inspect and use rigging equipment.
Splice primary and secondary overhead wires with proper tools.
Operate line equipment such as digger/derrick and aerial devices after training.
Read and record readings on Kilowatt-hour meters; complete apprentice cards.
Perform similar or lesser skilled work as assigned.
