Job summary

AEP Service Corporation seeks an entry-level Line Mechanic/Apprentice to assist in installation, maintenance and inspection of electrical transmission facilities near Rocky Mount, VA. You will operate line trucks under supervision and progress to higher levels of responsibility with training.

Candidates must reside within 45 minutes of the Rocky Mount Service Center, hold a valid driver’s license, and obtain a CDL beginner permit within 60 days.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• No prior experience is required; line work experience or line school is preferred.
• Must possess a valid state driver’s license and obtain CDL beginner permit within 60 days.

Responsibilities

• Assist with assembly, installation, maintenance, removal and inspection of overhead and underground facilities.
• Operate line trucks and related equipment under supervision.
• Assist with loading/unloading, handling poles, towers and structures.
• Perform safe, orderly housekeeping of tools, equipment and work area.
• Support pole top rescue and bucket truck rescue procedures as trained.
• Maintain records and submit reports; record readings on meters as required.
• Work under direct, immediate, and later general supervision as skill increases.
