Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) seeks a Line Mechanic to perform installation, maintenance, and inspection of overhead and underground electric distribution facilities. You will drive line trucks, operate aerial devices, and assist with switching and restoration activities.

The role requires completion of lineworker training or equivalent, and progression through the line classifications with safety as a priority. Residence near Huntington, WV is preferred, and a CDL is required for higher levels.

Qualifications

• Line Mechanic D: No experience required.
• Line Mechanic C: Minimum one year of distribution electrical power line work experience.
• Line Mechanic B/A: More experience with milestones and training requirements.

Responsibilities

• Construct, install, maintain, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and remove overhead and underground electric distribution facilities.
• Perform line work on energized and de-energized electrical systems following safety requirements.
• Assist with switching operations, grounding procedures, and restoration activities.
• Operate and maintain company equipment including trucks and aerial devices.
• Install, maintain, and troubleshoot URD systems and related electrical equipment.
• Locate and correct electrical faults and service interruptions using diagnostic tools.
