Job summary

The Department of Education and Early Development (DEED) is recruiting for a flexible, organization-wide support role open to Alaskan Residents.

The position may be based in Juneau or Anchorage with relocation to the selected applicant’s location, offering hybrid and office-based work options.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited college, preferably in administration and/or education.
  • Five years of experience in the broad field of education, counseling or administrative services, one year at the technical/paraprofessional level.
  • Substitution: graduate study may substitute for the required experience; undergraduate study may substitute for generalized experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative, technical, and program support to the Alaska Reads Act and Early Learning team.
  • Serve as the team’s hiring assistant by coordinating recruitment activities, interviews, reference checks, hiring documentation, and onboarding.
  • Coordinate employee and non-employee travel, including approvals, reservations, documentation, and expense closeout.
  • Process invoices and support procurement by preparing documentation, tracking contracts, and routing payments for approval.
  • Coordinate meetings, professional learning events, communications, records, and other operational activities to help the team work effectively.

What you will be doing:

In this role, you will:

The working environment you can expect:

This position may be based in either the Juneau or Anchorage office and offers flexible work options, including in-office, hybrid, or remote work, depending on operational needs. The work is primarily office-based and involves regular collaboration with program staff, administrative support teams, and department partners supporting statewide literacy and early learning programs.

1) Graduation from an accredited college, preferably in administration and/or education. AND One year of experience as an Education Associate 1 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.

OR

2) Five years of experience in the broad field of education, counseling or administrative services, one year of which was at the technical/paraprofessional.

OR

3) Any combination of the above.

Substitution: In option 2, graduate study may be substituted for the required specialized experience on a year-for-year basis. Undergraduate study, preferably in administration and/or education may also substitute for the generalized experience in option 2 on a year-for-year basis.

  • Three (3) professional references, whom we may contact by phone, are required. One (1) of these references must be your current or most recent supervisor, if not already provided in the application.
  • Current performance evaluation, if available.
  • A copy of academic transcripts (unofficial is okay; please ensure that the institution name/URL is listed on the transcripts) is used to verify that you meet the minimum qualifications.
