Job summary

The Department of Education & Early Development (DEED) seeks a Program Coordinator 1 to support fiscal and grants management for Alaska Reads Act and related programs. The role may be based in Juneau or Anchorage with hybrid work options to accommodate operations.

The successful candidate will coordinate budgeting, monitoring, reporting, and compliance across divisions, liaising with program staff and partners to ensure timely deliverables and accurate financial records.

Qualifications

  • Budget administration and analysis experience and ability to justify and report on budgets.
  • Knowledge of grants management processes including proposals, awards, and reporting.
  • Ability to understand and communicate technical information and advise others.

  • Coordinate fiscal and grants management activities supporting the Alaska Reads Act, Early Learning programs, and the Comprehensive Literacy State Development (CLSD) Grant.
  • Prepare budget materials, monitor expenditures and encumbrances, analyze fiscal trends, and compile financial and program reports.
  • Maintain accurate grant and fiscal records, process reimbursement documentation, and track reporting requirements, deliverables, and deadlines.
  • Use state accounting and grants management systems to reconcile information and help identify fiscal, documentation, or compliance concerns.
  • Work closely with program staff and administrative partners to coordinate established fiscal, procurement, grant, and reporting processes.

Working Environment:

This position may be based in either the Juneau or Anchorage office and offers flexible work options, including in-office, hybrid, or remote work, depending on operational needs.

  • Budget Administration: Knowledge of the principles and practices of budget administration and analysis, including preparing, justifying, reporting on, and executing the budget; and the relationships among program, budget, accounting, and reporting systems.

  • Grants Management: Knowledge of requirements, practices, and procedures for soliciting, receiving, reviewing, and processing proposals, and awarding and administering grants and agreements.

Travel:

This position may require occasional travel within the state to support DEED sponsored events.
