Job summary

Albany Medical Center's Emergency Department is seeking an ED Technician for the night shift to support nurses and physicians with tests, procedures, and patient care in a high-acuity environment.

The role involves assisting with resuscitation, venipuncture, vital signs, EKGs, wound care, and patient transport, with emphasis on communication and teamwork in a Level 1 trauma-capable center.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• 6 months to 1 year of ED Technician and/or EMS experience desired.
• Ability to communicate cooperatively and effectively with patients, families, and staff.

Responsibilities

• Assists with resuscitation / CPR and emergency airway procedures.
• Performs venipuncture to obtain blood specimens.
• Assists physicians and nurses providing technical support for patient care.
• Reports on the condition of the patient to the appropriate supervisor/staff member.
• Assists with the transport of patients to other departments.
• Assists with obtaining and documentation of vital signs, cardiac monitoring, and non-invasive blood pressure monitoring systems.
• Obtains 12-lead EKGs, discontinues peripheral IV and heparin/saline locks.
• Assist with wound care, insertion of Foley catheters, and nasogastric tubes.
• Assists with positioning patients, application of orthopedic splints and dressings.
• Measure and fit crutches and canes and instruct patients on proper use.
