Job summary

Albany Med Health System seeks an Emergency Department Technician to support nurses and physicians in the Pediatric ED. The role involves taking tests, performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and interacting with acutely ill and unstable patients during night shifts in the United States of America.

You will assist with resuscitation, venipuncture, vital signs, EKGs, wound care, and patient transport, while maintaining high standards of ethical conduct and teamwork with clinicians.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 6 months to 1-year ED Technician and/or EMS experience desired.
• Ability to communicate cooperatively and effectively with patients and staff.

Responsibilities

• Assists with resuscitation / CPR and emergency airway procedures.
• Performs venipuncture to obtain blood specimens.
• Assists physicians and nurses providing technical support for patient care.
• Reports on the condition of the patient to the appropriate supervisor/staff member.
• Assists with the transport of patients to other departments.
• Assists with obtaining and documentation of vital signs, cardiac monitoring, and non-invasive blood pressure monitoring systems.
• Obtains 12-lead EKGs, discontinues peripheral IV and heparin/saline locks.
• Assist with wound care, insertion of Foley catheters, and nasogastric tubes.
• Assists with positioning patients, application of orthopedic splints and dressings.
• Measure and fit crutches and canes and instruct patients on proper use.
