Job summary

Albany Medical Center's Emergency Department is seeking a Night Shift ED Technician to assist nurses and physicians, perform diagnostic tests, and support resuscitation and airway procedures for acutely ill patients. Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 6 months to 1 year previous experience as an ED Technician and/or EMS experience is desired
• Honest, punctual, and adheres to the highest standards of ethical conduct as defined by AMC.
• Ability to communicate cooperatively and effectively with patients, family members, employees and others.
• Regularly required to stand, walk, use of hands for various job functions, and occasionally sit, kneel, or crouch.

Responsibilities

• Assists with resuscitation / CPR and emergency airway procedures
• Performs venipuncture to obtain blood specimens
• Assists physicians and nurses providing technical support for patient care
• Reports on the condition of the patient to the appropriate supervisor/staff member
• Assists with the transport of patients to other departments
• Assists with obtaining and documentation of vital signs, cardiac monitoring, and non-invasive blood pressure monitoring systems
• Obtains 12-lead EKGs, discontinues peripheral IV and heparin/saline locks
• Assist with wound care, insertion of Foley catheters, and nasogastric tubes
• Assists with positioning patients, application of orthopedic splints and dressings
• Measure and fit crutches and canes and instruct patients on proper use
