Job summary

WSP USA is seeking an Early Career Electrical Engineer (ESSP) for our Denver, Colorado office to contribute to electrical studies and SCADA development for utility and industrial clients. The role covers protective relaying, power system planning, and design studies across substations and transmission systems, with opportunities to travel to project sites and work with cross‑functional teams.

Qualifications

  • Must be recent Engineering Graduate (Bachelor’s Degree) or enrolled in a university pursuing engineering.
  • Analytical mindset with ability to exercise sound judgement.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for engineering and non-engineering audiences.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team to meet objectives.
  • Proficiency with technical writing, office software, and predictive models.
  • Uphold workplace safety and adhere to health, safety and harassment policies.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform electrical studies and/or develop and troubleshoot SCADA systems for utility/industrial clients.
  • Address power systems including generation facilities, substations, and transmission/distribution networks.
  • Conduct protective relaying analysis, settings calculations, and SCADA integration.
  • Run power system planning studies and voltage stability analyses; automate large batch simulations.
  • Design grounding, insulation coordination, and power quality studies.
  • Configure RTUs, HMIs, PLCs and communication paths; travel to sites to test/commission.
  • Develop control logic and test at project sites; prepare technical reports and documentation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams across controls, procurement, and permitting.
  • Support senior engineers and assist with risk identification and remediation activities.
