Job summary

The Macon-Bibb County Government is seeking an E-911 Communication Officer to receive, process, and dispatch emergency and non-emergency information. You will operate emergency telecommunications equipment, dispatch law enforcement, fire, and other personnel, and coordinate field response units with accuracy and calm under pressure.

Ideal candidates will have a High School Diploma or equivalent and some public safety communications experience; typing 30 wpm and passing the P.O.S.T.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Some public safety communications experience preferred.
• Must type 30 wpm.
• Must pass P.O.S.T. Certification Exam.
• Knowledge of Macon-Bibb County geography and FCC regulations.
• Experience with PCs and MS Office Suite; familiarity with internet and email.

Responsibilities

• Receive and process emergency and non-emergency information.
• Dispatch law enforcement, fire, or other personnel and equipment.
• Coordinate movement of field responders and maintain response status.
• Maintain contact with officers and verify location and backup needs.
• Transfer medical calls to ambulance services and assess life-threats.
• Monitor EMA radio traffic and weather statements; disseminate information.
• Operate GCIC/NCIC terminals to verify warrants and access records.
• Engage with the public and provide information or redirects as needed.
• Operate required communications equipment.
