Job summary
Ombudsman Educational Services in Illinois seeks a Special Education Teacher to lead instructional planning for elementary students with IEPs, delivering dynamic, personalized learning within a learning center or classroom. You will design engaging lessons, integrate software, and align with state standards while addressing diverse needs.
Responsibilities include PBIS implementation, differentiated instruction, progress tracking, and collaboration with families and staff to support student
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in education, special education, or related field.
- Licensed or in process of obtaining IL professional educator (PEL) credential.
- Licensed or in process of obtaining IL SSE or LBS1 credential.
- Ability to obtain crisis management training certification.
- Experience with curriculum development and differentiation; preferably in alternative, special education and/or behavioral health programs.
- Experience with special education services and compliance for students with learning disabilities, emotional disturbance and/or challenging behaviors.
- Experience with IEPs and working with diverse student needs.
- Proven success in developing and implementing education plans for at-risk students.
- Strong communication, organization, conflict resolution, multitasking, problem solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to think and act quickly and calmly in emergencies and make independent decisions.
- Knowledge of technology including Microsoft Office and basic office equipment.
Responsibilities
- Create an inclusive, collaborative environment involving students, parents, colleagues, and administrators.
- Establish a classroom climate built on PBIS with mutual respect and clear expectations.
- Implement PBIS strategies, reward systems, and appropriate consequences.
- Track student progress and generate detailed reports.
- Deliver differentiated instruction individually or in co-teaching to meet IEP goals.
- Adapt curricula to diverse learning styles and guide differentiation methods.
- Utilize varied instructional methods and educational software to support diverse needs.
- Manage student caseloads and implement IEP goals and interventions.
- Prepare daily lesson plans and organize materials aligned to standards.
- Maintain an organized, safe classroom per procedures.
- Stay informed on research-based practices to improve teaching effectiveness.
- Respond to feedback from evaluations and pursue professional growth.
- Support school community with additional duties as assigned.
