Job summary

Spectrum Center Schools and Programs is hiring an Instructional Aide II to join our Special Education team serving students in Grades K-12. You will deliver personalized support, implement IEP/ITP/PBIP strategies, and collaborate with teachers to enrich classroom and community learning experiences.

Ideal candidates have a Bachelor's degree or higher in education and 3+ years of relevant instructional support, with strong crisis management, safety, and documentation skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in education or a closely related field of study.
  • Hold currently or have the ability to obtain a CA “Emergency 30 Day Sub Permit” within 90 days of beginning employment.
  • Hold currently or have the ability to obtain a valid CA state driver’s license.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain certification in company approved crisis management training.
  • Minimum 3yr's prior experience providing instruction, guidance and/or support to children; preferably in an alternative, special education and/or behavioral health program setting.

Responsibilities

  • Implementing engaging and personalized curriculum—including on-site and community-based activities—and behavioral intervention strategies aligned with each student's IEP/ITP/PBIP.
  • Consulting actively with your supervisor regarding student progress and adjustments to the IEP/ITP/PBIP, assisting transitions to mainstream environments or adult programs, and contributing input through progress reports, data sheets, and tailored curriculum modifications.
  • Following and enriching the classroom schedule, aligning activities with students’ academic, community, and vocational objectives, and addressing individualized educational services and necessary adjustments.
  • Completing precise, timely documentation of student behaviors, sharing observations with relevant staff, and recommending strategies while maintaining confidentiality of all student records.
  • Participating in data collection and analysis, recording essential student information, and providing input for Functional Behavioral Assessments and Positive Behavior Intervention Plans.
  • Performing job coaching duties, facilitating vocational training and mentoring students on campus and at community work sites, updating supervisors about development and placement opportunities.
  • Providing support for students’ physical care needs, such as toileting, medication administration, feeding, and personal hygiene, ensuring dignity and comfort.
  • Maintaining classroom safety by monitoring activities and addressing safety concerns swiftly.
  • Complying with company policies and regulatory requirements and reporting concerns.
  • Providing crisis intervention when necessary, prioritizing safety and using de‑escalation techniques.
  • Meeting mandatory trainings and professional development sessions.
  • Assuring a clean, organized, welcoming learning environment and assisting with maintenance of materials.
  • Participating in team environment, fostering cooperation, effective communication and positive culture.
  • Assisting with classroom operations and special projects, including substitute teaching responsibilities.
  • Acting as primary instructor in the teacher’s absence and communicating with families.
  • Providing orientation and support to new staff and ensuring they understand agency guidelines.
  • Assisting with educational planning, material preparation, and maintenance of student data binders.
